Gather the Necessary and Vital Information for Your Claim
Create a detailed account of the accident to the best of your knowledge, including the date, time and location of the accident. Remember to include clothing, weather conditions and even what footwear you were wearing. Keep any damaged items as this will help to further support your claim.
Record the personal details of as many witnesses as possible. Try to attain a written description of what they saw happen.
Record police officer details, including the officers base police station and a crime reference number.
Exchange insurance company details with the other party.
Take photographs of the accident. All modern mobile phones have a camera and this quality is sufficient. If you cannot take photographs, make a sketched plan of the accident scene.
In the event of sustained injuries, seek medical help and make a note of the doctors name or the hospital's accident and emergency reference number. Photograph any visible injuries.
Keep all receipts incurred as a result of the accident (Travel etc).
